ModelFindr DMCA FAQ | Fighting Bogus Copyright Takedowns

DMCA & Takedown FAQ

How ModelFindr handles copyright claims, counters, and public transparency.

What is the DMCA and how does it affect ModelFindr?

The DMCA is a U.S. law that lets copyright holders request removal of infringing content. ModelFindr does not host model videos or images—we link to official platform pages via permitted APIs/embeds. When we receive a notice, we log it publicly and respond under the statute's procedures.

Do you host any copyrighted files?

No. We don't store model media on our servers. Thumbnails and streams come from official platform CDN/API endpoints or permitted embeds.

Who is allowed to send a valid DMCA notice?

The copyright owner or an authorized agent (with verifiable authority). Notices must include required elements and a sworn statement under penalty of perjury.

Why do some model-filed claims get rejected?

On certain platforms, performers assign or license rights to the platform. In those cases, individual performers typically lack standing to demand removal from lawful affiliate/API usage. We verify authority and respond accordingly.

What happens when you receive a DMCA notice?

  1. We verify the sender's authority and claim details.
  2. We log an entry on the Wall of Shame Ledger with neutral, factual metadata.
  3. If the claim targets content delivered through official platform integrations, we notify that platform and, where appropriate, submit or coordinate a counter-notice.

Do you remove pages upon a notice?

If a search engine delists a URL after a notice, we reflect that status in the ledger. Because we don't host the media, there is usually nothing for us to “remove.” When a counter-notice succeeds, search results can be restored.

How do counters work?

When a notice appears defective (no standing, misidentifies content, etc.), we or the platform submit a counter-notice. The sender then has a statutory window to bring a lawsuit; if none is filed, search engines typically restore results.

What information do you publish in the Ledger?

Date, claimed rightsholder, platform, the affected model slug, a short description, current status (e.g., Received, Countered, Restored), and factual notes. We avoid editorializing and keep it strictly factual.

Privacy: do you publish personal info?

No. We do not publish personal addresses, phone numbers, or emails. We only display limited, non-PII claim metadata needed for transparency.

I believe a listing violates my rights. How do I contact you?

Email [email protected] with your claim details and proof of authority. If you're a platform operator, note that we prioritize responses through official legal/abuse channels.

Can I retract a notice?

Yes. If you sent a notice in error, email a signed retraction from the same contact used in the original claim. We'll update the Ledger status to “Retracted.”

What is the War Chest?

Our defense fund for legal review, counters, and policy advocacy. See War Chest for how funds are used and current progress.

Are you aligned with platform policies?

Yes. ModelFindr works with official affiliate programs, APIs, and embeds. Where platforms confirm affiliates may lawfully index/route traffic, we defer to those terms and their legal teams.

How can platforms or agencies contact your legal point?

Email [email protected]. Include your role, the affected URLs, and any reference IDs from your platform or the search engine.
